Navigating the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS)

The EU ETS, effective from January 1, 2024, mandates that shipping companies monitor and report their CO2 emissions, with the requirement to purchase allowances corresponding to their emission levels. This system aims to incentivise the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions within the maritime sector.

Our team offers comprehensive guidance on compliance strategies, including the acquisition of EU Allowances (EUAs) and the implementation of energy-efficient practices to minimise emission liabilities.

Understanding and Complying with FuelEU Maritime Regulations

Starting January 1, 2025, the FuelEU Maritime regulation enforces limits on the greenhouse gas intensity of energy used on board ships, with progressive reduction targets leading up to an 80% decrease by 2050. This regulation applies to ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above, affecting energy consumption within and between EU ports, as well as 50% of the energy used on voyages where either the departure or arrival port is outside the EU.

We streamline compliance by utilising your emissions data, preferred supply port, and fuel oil-to-gas oil ratio. Our tailored fuel mix solutions meet GHG intensity standards and clarify financial impacts, supporting effective compliance management and revealing cost-saving opportunities with optimal low-carbon fuel choices. Our Dubai office specialises in supplying high-quality biofuels and provides expert advice on their technical considerations, procurement, storage, and handling. We ensure that the biofuels we supply meet the necessary certifications, such as the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC), to facilitate seamless integration into your operations.
